Thank you Grade 1s for a great week of learning! We have had a busy week and are getting more familiar with our classroom and school routines. This week we were able to learn two new games in gym (ask your child what they are!). We began our writer's workshop and practiced journaling through drawing pictures and labeling what we drew. If we didn't know how to spell the words, we wrote the letters we could hear when we said them out loud. Yesterday we brainstormed a list of classroom jobs we can be responsible for to help keep our classroom safe, clean, organized, and beautiful! Today we practiced printing the letter "c" and did a guided drawing of something that starts with the letter "c". Ask your child what they drew and if they remember how to spell it! The First Day

Yesterday was our first day of Grade 1! We met our teachers, met new friends, and had our first full day at school. We have two colours in our classroom: team blue and team red. Ask your child which team they are on :) Today we were great at remembering our routines and jobs in Grade 1. Today we read a poem called "The First Day", played alphabet bingo, made name tags for coat hooks and reading bins, played outside, read books, and practiced counting all the way to 100. We listened to a story called "Clark the Shark". Clark the Shark learns some important lessons about how to act at school. Ask your child what some of his rules were! Thank you to our families for helping your children be prepared and excited for Grade 1 :) We look forward to the rest of the year! :) Ps. Just a reminder that Fridays are early dismissal days at 11:55.
