Playground update and new sight words

***Playground

We are so excited that we have the playground open and ready for us to enjoy. With a new playground come some changes to support entry and exit into the school. To help support the space around the playground and keeping everyone safe at Copperfield School, we are putting a schedule in place for the mornings before school.  This will help ease congestion and supervision of the students on the playground.

Playground Schedule (8:10am-8:25am)
K- Friday
1- Thursday
2- Wednesday
3- Tuesday
4- Monday

We appreciate your support in helping us communicate and employ this schedule with your students.

In addition, in order to ensure the safety of students, there are some entry and exit door changes for certain classes. As of Tuesday, September 17, 2019 the following will be in place. Teachers will be reviewing this change with you children today so they are also aware of their new door.

Door F (Green)- Kindergarten (Grant, Montgomery, Norrie, Handelsman)
Door E (Orange)- Ly, Granger, Bredahl, Thouin, Depner
Door B (Yellow)- Molsberry, Reilly, Soulliere, Dunlop

We thank you in advance for your flexibility as our student population continues to grow.***

This week our new sight words are: and, blue, you, a, can

Please help me review these words at home, and our 5 sight words from last week!
Today we read a new poem called "I can be a pal". We talked about the second pillar of care, "taking care of others". We brained stormed different ways that we can care for others. Ask me what some ways are!

Today we went "book shopping" around the classroom and looked for a book that was a "good fit" for us. This means that we should be interested in the book we are reading. Even if we can't read all of the words yet, we can use the pictures to help us read the book.
In math we represented the number 10. We represented it using the numeral, word, ten frame, tally marks, and pictures. In Grade 1 we are learning numbers to 20 and even beyond!

  • Thank you to those who have already sent in an artifact or photo for our alphabet. Please send that in when you can!
  • Students will also need to bring in a flat rock that is about the size of an adults hand. Please send this in by this Thursday.
  • Scholastic Orders are due tomorrow, September 17th!

Run, run, as fast as you can! You can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread man!

We had a very exciting day full of surprises! This morning as we were learning our new poem about the gingerbread man, we discovered that our gingerbread people we made on Friday ran away!! They left us a note, and we went on a gingerbread man hunt around the school! Ask me where we had to look and where we finally found them! This afternoon we went up on stage and practiced our song for our concert this week! We are so excited to show you our Sugar Plum dance. This afternoon a package came for us! It was freezing cold and had snow on it! It came all the way from the North Pole! We opened it up and it was an Elf! We will learn what our Elf's name is tomorrow! Here is our new poem of the week and our new sight words: ran, ate, eat, he, no

What is perseverance?

Here is our first 5 words from our new sight word list! This week's words are: do all under on at This is our poem of the week: This week we are talking all about perseverance. Our poem says "I think I can"! This is a positive mindset that we are trying learn to say to ourselves even when things are hard. We listened to a story called "How to catch a star" which is about a boy who loved stars and wished he could catch his own. We counted that he tried at least 5 different ways to catch a star and did not give up until one of his ways worked! We brained stormed what perseverance is and made a list. Then, we drew pictures of a time that we thought something was hard but had to persevere to accomplish it. We drew before and after pictures of what it looks and feels like to persevere! Some of us drew about learning how to ride a bike, swim, skate, climb monkey bars, and play hockey. REMINDERS: We seem to have a fruit fly problem ...
