The Terry Fox Run

Wow! All of the students did amazing at the Terry Fox Run. We ran around the pond once. Thank you to all of the parents who came out to cheer us on. We thought about how Terry ran and how he never gave up. We challenged ourselves to not stop and walk if we were tired. As a class, we raised $104.95 for Terry! That is so amazing. Thank you for all of your contributions.

Our class has been so excited about learning who Terry Fox is this week. Here are some of our highlights this week.

Our creation of Terry Fox's journey. It starts on one side of our clasrroom

and ends on the other side of the classroom

Math
Number Sense:
We have been learning to represent numbers from 1-20. This week, we looked at the numbers 12 and 13. Please review numbers 10-20 with me. I am learning to show them through pictures, tally marks, the numeral and word.

Patterning
We worked on a math problem this week. "Mannat had a beaded necklace made of 2 different colors, but it broke! How many different ways can you put the beads back together so that it is a pattern. We learned that a pattern has to repeat itself. We also learned that patterns can be labelled using the letters of the alphabet starting with A. For example, if the beads were Red Yellow Red Yellow I would label it ABAB. Please help me practice this at home.

Housekeeping:

Notices will be sent home on Monday to students who have not yet send in their artifacts for their alphabet letter they were assigned.

Just a reminder that we go outside every day. Please ensure your child is dressed for the weather every day.

Please continue to send in rainbow snacks with your child so that they can fuel their bodies and brains to learn at the best. We continue to track how many rainbow snacks are brought in. You can have your child shop for rainbow snacks this weekend when you go grocery shopping!

Upcoming Dates:
Clay for Kids activity in school - Thursday October 17. Please check your e-mails in the next week for a notice about this activity and the fees due.

They left us a note, and we went on a gingerbread man hunt around the school! Ask me where we had to look and where we finally found them! This afternoon we went up on stage and practiced our song for our concert this week! We are so excited to show you our Sugar Plum dance. This afternoon a package came for us! It was freezing cold and had snow on it! It came all the way from the North Pole! We opened it up and it was an Elf! We will learn what our Elf's name is tomorrow! What is perseverance?

Here is our first 5 words from our new sight word list! This week's words are: do all under on at This is our poem of the week: This week we are talking all about perseverance. Our poem says "I think I can"! This is a positive mindset that we are trying learn to say to ourselves even when things are hard. We listened to a story called "How to catch a star" which is about a boy who loved stars and wished he could catch his own. We counted that he tried at least 5 different ways to catch a star and did not give up until one of his ways worked! We brained stormed what perseverance is and made a list. Then, we drew pictures of a time that we thought something was hard but had to persevere to accomplish it. We drew before and after pictures of what it looks and feels like to persevere! Some of us drew about learning how to ride a bike, swim, skate, climb monkey bars, and play hockey. REMINDERS: We seem to have a fruit fly problem ...
