Grade 1 Assembly

We had our Grade 1 assembly today! Thank you to all of the family members that were able to come watch us perform. We were very proud of how we sang to share our learning about the three pillars of care. We hope you enjoyed it :)

This week we practiced going onto Raz Kids on the iPads. Thank you for sending in labeled headphones in a ziplock bag if you are able to. I can show you how I log in Raz Kids at home. Log in information was sent home last week.

We continue to practice our reading stamina. We learned that our reading stamina are our reading muscles. As a class, we are able to read for 8 minutes fully focused on our book. Please continue to read to me everyday and have me read my home reading book with you daily. We are working on "read to self" and "read to someone". Here are some examples of what good readers do and what it looks like:

We had so much fun going to a different park today with our buddies. Ask me to tell you waht kind of games I played on the playground with my big buddy.

Run, run, as fast as you can! You can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread man!

We had a very exciting day full of surprises! This morning as we were learning our new poem about the gingerbread man, we discovered that our gingerbread people we made on Friday ran away!! They left us a note, and we went on a gingerbread man hunt around the school! Ask me where we had to look and where we finally found them! This afternoon we went up on stage and practiced our song for our concert this week! We are so excited to show you our Sugar Plum dance. This afternoon a package came for us! It was freezing cold and had snow on it! It came all the way from the North Pole! We opened it up and it was an Elf! We will learn what our Elf's name is tomorrow! Here is our new poem of the week and our new sight words: ran, ate, eat, he, no

What is perseverance?

Here is our first 5 words from our new sight word list! This week's words are: do all under on at This is our poem of the week: This week we are talking all about perseverance. Our poem says "I think I can"! This is a positive mindset that we are trying learn to say to ourselves even when things are hard. We listened to a story called "How to catch a star" which is about a boy who loved stars and wished he could catch his own. We counted that he tried at least 5 different ways to catch a star and did not give up until one of his ways worked! We brained stormed what perseverance is and made a list. Then, we drew pictures of a time that we thought something was hard but had to persevere to accomplish it. We drew before and after pictures of what it looks and feels like to persevere! Some of us drew about learning how to ride a bike, swim, skate, climb monkey bars, and play hockey. REMINDERS: We seem to have a fruit fly problem ...
