New Sight Words

Our poem this week is all about October.


Our sight words for the week are:
play
red
yellow
come
in


Tomorrow we are going to the learning commons to exchange our library books! Please help your child remember to bring it in for tomorrow so they can get a new one!


Today we practiced a new type of reading called "EEKK"! Ask your child to tell you about it! We are practicing reading to someone else, listening to our partner, and reading to our partner out loud. If we don't know the words, we can use the pictures and words for clues, and can even ask our buddy for help. We are building our reading stamina and today we read for 8 minutes!

What is perseverance?

Here is our first 5 words from our new sight word list! This week's words are: do all under on at This is our poem of the week: This week we are talking all about perseverance. Our poem says "I think I can"! This is a positive mindset that we are trying learn to say to ourselves even when things are hard. We listened to a story called "How to catch a star" which is about a boy who loved stars and wished he could catch his own. We counted that he tried at least 5 different ways to catch a star and did not give up until one of his ways worked! We brained stormed what perseverance is and made a list. Then, we drew pictures of a time that we thought something was hard but had to persevere to accomplish it. We drew before and after pictures of what it looks and feels like to persevere! The Pledge of Kindness

We have been introduced to all of the sight words on our second list! Please help me review these at home. I should know all of these sight words by Spring Break. At Student Led Conferences, we will be receiving our third and final sight word list of grade one. Here is the second list: The Grade 3 Students are going to be hosting the Pink Shirt Day Assembly! You are invited to join us   on February 26th at 2:00 pm   in the gym. We will be singing songs, reciting poetry and celebrating kindness! We hope to see you there and remember to wear your PINK Shirt that day! This week our poem is about kindness.
