Yesterday we went on a scavenger hunt to look for signs of fall. Even though we saw snow, we saw a lot of other signs of fall! We looked for a pile of leaves, bare trees, yellow leaves, red leaves, birds flying, busy squirrels, and cool air. Ask your child what how many signs of fall they found!
BFG: Tomorrow we have "Big Friendly Groups" (BFG). Big Friendly Groups are a fun way for students to connect between grades and teachers, building a sense of community. Students will break into their groups to meet new friends and play math games together.
Student in the Spotlight: Today your child will be bringing how a letter called "Student in the Spotlight". Each week we will have two students (one student from the blue side and one from the red side) be the student in the spot light for the week. Each day during the week the student in the spotlight will have a specific task to present to our class so we can learn more about them. This will help us learn how we are connected through our own stories and how we are connected to each other.
You will find an attached schedule of when your child will be the student in the spotlight. Please read the letter for more detailed information!
Clay For Kids: Our first in class activity, Clay for Kids is on October 17th. An activity form was sent out. Please fill it in as soon as you can and return to school. If you need the form click here.
Ps. We still need volunteers for this! Thank you to those who have signed up already! :)
Scholastic:
Tomorrow we will send home October Scholastic book orders. They will be due back on Thursday, October 10.
How are we connected?
Today we inquired about the big idea of being "connected". We brainstormed what we think the word "connect" means. We then used a "connection device" that made noise and lit up when we all held hands and connected. When the connection broke and some of us let go of each other's hands, the noise and lights stopped. We read the story "Everything is connected" and thought about more ways we are connected. We are connected to our parents, siblings, cousins, the trees, animals, space, and even not so great things like litter and pollution. Ask your child what some things are that they are connected to. We will be wondering "how are we connected" all throughout Grade 1 through our writing, math, art, outside time, science...everything!
Welcome Ms. Novak!
Ms. Novak is a student teacher in our class! She will be coming weekly to work with us and help us in our learning. We are excited to have her!
