The Colour Wheel

We hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving weekend :)

Today we discovered more about colours! We talked about the three primary colours, and learned how when you mix them together you can create 3 new colours called secondary colours. We made our own colour wheels today by mixing and painting all 6 sections of the wheel.

Our poem this week is called "I'm a little pumpkin". Our sight words these week are:
big, little, see, up, it

Thank you for continuing to practice these words at home. It is so exciting to see the students recognizing and reading these words more and more!

In math today we talked about the number 5. We played a game called "Shake and Spill" to find out how many different ways we can make 5. Ask your child some different ways they came up with to make 5.

We are now working on tallying our snacks using the letter sound our snacks make! If students bring in an orange, and they put a tally mark under the letter "O". Our tally marks are getting so organized and easy to read!
Here is our first day doing this:

Reminders:
  • Tomorrow is our home reading and library book exchange. Please help your child remember to pack these in their backpacks!
  • Tomorrow is FUN LUNCH for those who ordered.
  • Clay for Kids is this Thursday! If you have not already payed for this please do so :)

Please look at this letter from our Speech and Language Pathologist. She will be working in our class with our students to help develop language skills further.

What is perseverance?

Here is our first 5 words from our new sight word list! This week's words are: do all under on at This is our poem of the week: This week we are talking all about perseverance. Our poem says "I think I can"! This is a positive mindset that we are trying learn to say to ourselves even when things are hard. We listened to a story called "How to catch a star" which is about a boy who loved stars and wished he could catch his own. We counted that he tried at least 5 different ways to catch a star and did not give up until one of his ways worked! We brained stormed what perseverance is and made a list. Then, we drew pictures of a time that we thought something was hard but had to persevere to accomplish it. We drew before and after pictures of what it looks and feels like to persevere! Some of us drew about learning how to ride a bike, swim, skate, climb monkey bars, and play hockey. REMINDERS: We seem to have a fruit fly problem ...

Little Elf

It is the final week before the Winter Break. Wow! We have been counting the days and today is day 69. That means we have been in grade one for 69 days of learning, fun and growing.  This week, our new sight words are: who went what  but  so Our poem is: Our teachers are very proud of us and all the work we have been doing around our reading skills. We have been really good sight word detectives and finding them hidden in other words.  Please click on the poem above and ask me to find the sight words this wee: but, so, went. I am also using the strategy Eagle Eye (looking at pictures for clues) to decode words. Ask me to tell you which word says "Christmas Tree, Reindeer, Santa, Candy Cane." We enjoyed some Festive Singing in the gym today and are working on a story map for the story "The Gingerbread Man". Today we learned what the word characters mean. There are 7 characters in the story we listened to today. Ask me to tell yo...
