Mathletics and PJ Day

**Thursday December 19 is the last day of school before winter break. It is a FULL DAY from 8:25am-3:10pm. It is also PJ day! I can bring a stuffy too but my teachers said that I should be making a good choice because there is a chance that it could get lost or I forget it at school. Please have a conversation with me about this so that I am aware of the risk.

I have a small Mathletics login card in my backpack, please remind me to give it to you so it can be put in a safe place. I should be working on my math regularly. Right now, I can work on patterning and number sense. Please let me show you how this works. You can download the app and I can show you!

What an exciting week it has been. We have enjoyed working with Mrs. Bredahl's class on our story maps. We have been learning all about how stories work!

Ask me to tell you about what "setting" means. We have read the story of the Gingerbread many times to get all of the details in. Today we worked on the setting of our story.

Today we watched the dress rehearsal of the kindergarten winter concert. We had a discussion about how far we have come in grade 1 as we were remembering our performances in kindergarten. I am becoming more confident, growing as a learner and as a member of the classroom.

Our elf snowflake has been a great addition to our class! She is a kindness elf and has left us an elfcapade each day. It is a task that we must do to spread kindness. Today, she asked us to make special paper flowers. She also brought us a snowman today.

Curriculum Term Letter

Each grade team has created a Curriculum Term Letter to communicate with families about the learning that their child will be doing from September to December. The term plan specifies curricular outcomes that the grade will be focusing their instruction and assessment around. It is our hope that this letter will begin to provide you with a clear picture of your child’s learning over the year. You can find your child’s Curriculum Term Letter on our school website under Classes & Departments and the Resources on the right hand side of the page.   For further information on the Alberta Program of Studies, please visit the Learn Alberta website: https://www.learnalberta.ca/content/mychildslearning/ Housekeeping: **Tomorrow (Wednesdays) is our library day. Please help remind your child to put their library books into their backpacks.  We still need 5 more volunteers next Thursday October 17 from 9:45am-11:45am. Please click HERE to sign up. The Pledge of Kindness

We have been introduced to all of the sight words on our second list! Please help me review these at home. I should know all of these sight words by Spring Break. At Student Led Conferences, we will be receiving our third and final sight word list of grade one. Here is the second list: The Grade 3 Students are going to be hosting the Pink Shirt Day Assembly! You are invited to join us   on February 26th at 2:00 pm   in the gym. We will be singing songs, reciting poetry and celebrating kindness! We hope to see you there and remember to wear your PINK Shirt that day! This week our poem is about kindness. Ask me to find some sight words I know in the poem.  We are learning about how we are part of a family, a school a community and the world! We looked at Google Earth today. You can check it out at googleearth.com. We travelled to Mrs. Ly’s house today and even to Paul’s pizza (one of our students family owns this restaurant). Today they ...
