Signs of Winter

**Report Cards are now online and available through PowerSchool. Please review the report card with your child and celebrate all the learning they are doing and the areas they can work on.

There is no school tomorrow Friday January 31.

Here are the highlights from our week:

- A visit from our Occupational Therapist Ms. Christine. She worked with our class on our printing skills and reminded us that we always start letters at the top and showed just what mission position looks like when we are writing.
- Learning about Groundhog Day. Ask me to tell you if I think the groundhog will see his shadow and what that means

- Our rainbow trout are now alevin! Ask me to tell you what that means, what do the alevin look like and what is happening to them at this stage.
- Looking for signs of winter at the pond. We were excited to learn that last week, a coyote was spotted! We actually spotted a snowshoe hare on our walk!
- Investigating the story of snow and snowflakes
- What do people do in winter

Our rainbow trout are now at the alevin stage

Looking for signs of winter
We did not spot this coyote on or walk but this was spotted last week at the same pond!
We learned that coyotes are active during the winter and they hunt for snowshoe hares. We talked about how we are going to their home and that we need to be respectful of their space. So cool!

Run, run, as fast as you can! You can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread man!

We had a very exciting day full of surprises! This morning as we were learning our new poem about the gingerbread man, we discovered that our gingerbread people we made on Friday ran away!! They left us a note, and we went on a gingerbread man hunt around the school! Ask me where we had to look and where we finally found them! This afternoon we went up on stage and practiced our song for our concert this week! We are so excited to show you our Sugar Plum dance. This afternoon a package came for us! It was freezing cold and had snow on it! It came all the way from the North Pole! We opened it up and it was an Elf! We will learn what our Elf's name is tomorrow! Here is our new poem of the week and our new sight words: ran, ate, eat, he, no

What is perseverance?

Here is our first 5 words from our new sight word list! This week's words are: do all under on at This is our poem of the week: This week we are talking all about perseverance. Our poem says "I think I can"! This is a positive mindset that we are trying learn to say to ourselves even when things are hard. We listened to a story called "How to catch a star" which is about a boy who loved stars and wished he could catch his own. We counted that he tried at least 5 different ways to catch a star and did not give up until one of his ways worked! We brained stormed what perseverance is and made a list. Then, we drew pictures of a time that we thought something was hard but had to persevere to accomplish it. We drew before and after pictures of what it looks and feels like to persevere! Some of us drew about learning how to ride a bike, swim, skate, climb monkey bars, and play hockey. REMINDERS: We seem to have a fruit fly problem ...
