*Scholastic book orders went home today. If you would like to order, they are due on March 11.
*Tomorrow is pyjama day for our read-a-thon.

This afternoon we had 2 special guest readers read to us. They are our Education Director Mike Nelson and Mike McMahon
They read 2 funny stories to us. Ask me to retell the stories to you. I can retell the characters, the setting, the problem, and the solution.

We worked on the blend sound "bl". What are some words with the "bl" sound?

We continued our study of coyotes today. We learned what coyotes eat. Ask me what "carnivore" and "herbivore" means. We also looked at different types of animal teeth! We used our investigation skills to find out which ones are coyote teeth. We know that since coyotes eat meat, they will need strong and sharp teeth.

In math, read a story called "12 ways to to get to 11". We learned how to add more than 2 addends together to get to 11.   Instead of 2 addends like 6+5=11, the story had 3 addends to make 11.
Addends is a math word for any numbers that are added together.
For example,  this page has three addends. Ask me to show you what they are.

After the story, we tried to use more than two numbers (addends) to make the number 9.
___+____+_____=

Ask me to show you some ways.

Run, run, as fast as you can! You can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread man!

We had a very exciting day full of surprises! This morning as we were learning our new poem about the gingerbread man, we discovered that our gingerbread people we made on Friday ran away!! They left us a note, and we went on a gingerbread man hunt around the school! Ask me where we had to look and where we finally found them! This afternoon we went up on stage and practiced our song for our concert this week! We are so excited to show you our Sugar Plum dance. This afternoon a package came for us! It was freezing cold and had snow on it! It came all the way from the North Pole! We opened it up and it was an Elf! We will learn what our Elf's name is tomorrow! Here is our new poem of the week and our new sight words: ran, ate, eat, he, no

What is perseverance?

Here is our first 5 words from our new sight word list! This week's words are: do all under on at This is our poem of the week: This week we are talking all about perseverance. Our poem says "I think I can"! This is a positive mindset that we are trying learn to say to ourselves even when things are hard. We listened to a story called "How to catch a star" which is about a boy who loved stars and wished he could catch his own. We counted that he tried at least 5 different ways to catch a star and did not give up until one of his ways worked! We brained stormed what perseverance is and made a list. Then, we drew pictures of a time that we thought something was hard but had to persevere to accomplish it. We drew before and after pictures of what it looks and feels like to persevere! Some of us drew about learning how to ride a bike, swim, skate, climb monkey bars, and play hockey. REMINDERS: We seem to have a fruit fly problem ...
