Wednesday March 4

We are collecting brown egg cartons (not styrofoam) for some art projects we will be working on! Please send them to school if you have any!

This week in math we created our own napping houses. We drew our families in our napping houses and wrote an equation to answer the question "how many legs are in your napping house?". After, we traded napping houses with a partner and answered the same question looking at a different napping house than ours. We are working on completing number sentences that match our math problem, and then being able to explain our thinking to someone else. For example, if my napping house has me, my dad, my mom, my 2 sisters, and a pet dog my equation could be:

How many legs in my napping house?
2+2+2+2+2+2= 12
I know how to count by 2 to get 12.
or
4+4+4= 12
I grouped me and my dad together to make 4.  I grouped my mom and sister together to make 4.
I grouped my sister and my dog together to make 4.
4+4+4=12
I know 4+4=8. So 4 more makes 12.

Today in science we started researching about coyotes. We wrote and drew pictures of what we know on sticky notes and made a list of facts. We researched and listened to some facts about coyotes from a website, and also watched a video of a coyote howling! After, we did a guided drawing of a coyote. We are excited to continue our study of coyotes and other animals.

We are having an in school activity...

Run, run, as fast as you can! You can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread man!

We had a very exciting day full of surprises! This morning as we were learning our new poem about the gingerbread man, we discovered that our gingerbread people we made on Friday ran away!! They left us a note, and we went on a gingerbread man hunt around the school! Ask me where we had to look and where we finally found them! This afternoon we went up on stage and practiced our song for our concert this week! We are so excited to show you our Sugar Plum dance. This afternoon a package came for us! It was freezing cold and had snow on it! It came all the way from the North Pole! We opened it up and it was an Elf! We will learn what our Elf's name is tomorrow! Here is our new poem of the week and our new sight words: ran, ate, eat, he, no

What is perseverance?

Here is our first 5 words from our new sight word list! This week's words are: do all under on at This is our poem of the week: This week we are talking all about perseverance. Our poem says "I think I can"! This is a positive mindset that we are trying learn to say to ourselves even when things are hard. We listened to a story called "How to catch a star" which is about a boy who loved stars and wished he could catch his own. We counted that he tried at least 5 different ways to catch a star and did not give up until one of his ways worked! We brained stormed what perseverance is and made a list. Then, we drew pictures of a time that we thought something was hard but had to persevere to accomplish it. We drew before and after pictures of what it looks and feels like to persevere! Some of us drew about learning how to ride a bike, swim, skate, climb monkey bars, and play hockey. REMINDERS: We seem to have a fruit fly problem ...
